Using da Vinci's "The Last Supper" as a visual reference, I traced over the thirteen figures more abstractly. My goal was to really sit on the fence between "recognizable" and "random blobs". Judging from the diversity of the responses of people upon seeing this piece in person, I think I achieved that. I've had some see Jesus and the gang immediately, while others only complimented the colors and shapes. One person even said he thought he saw "a bunch of people sitting".
After the tracing, I transferred them onto the computer as vector shapes, and then used them as guides to cut out my shapes. The shapes were all cut from three painted papers, all different hues.
Once I had my shapes, the last step was the gluing. Using the digital vectors as a reference, I carefully marked the positions of the shapes on the final paper, and lay them out precisely. The abstract nature of the piece allowed me some lenient error room.
Although I feel like the title of the piece gave it away so although I can see the blobs I still see the last supper picture >D
